The life of Titus Brandsma

A lecture on the life of Titus Brandsma, a Dutch Carmelite priest, professor and publicist from Friesland, who was canonised by the Catholic Church on 15 May 2022 in St Peter’s Square in the Vatican. This event was attended by many Dutch pilgrims. In 1942, during World War II, Titus Brandsma was arrested by the German occupiers for opposing Nazism and speaking out against racial hatred. He was imprisoned in Scheveningen and Amersfoort camps and deported to Dachau concentration camp, where he was killed after a severe beating. In this lecture we will reflect on the life of Titus Brandsma, his significance for the modern world and the role he played at the Carmelite monastery in Merkelbeek. The event is free of charge.
